Cedar
Cedar is the new vest design I’ve been working on for a couple of weeks behind-the-scenes at Olann. Honestly, it might be my most favourite design to date. Cedar is the marriage between the very first ideas I had for my Ode vest and the knowledge I’ve gained with my knitting over the past year. Infinitely versatile, Cedar is designed to be worn over everything.
Knit in Garter Stitch, a classic and traditional knitting stitch, using Watershed from Hinterland Yarn, which is the softest mix of Alpaca and Rambouillet, the linear pattern is lofty and dense, with just enough detail. The vest has a capped sleeve, designed to fall off the shoulder a little, and it overlaps at the front, so you can wrap it tight or leave it looser. Eyelet holes are knit into each side to pass the knit belt through, so you can decide if you want to secure Cedar at the front or back, or leave the ties loose. And if all these details weren’t beautiful enough, the soft V-neck opening, and around the whole outside edge of the vest and armholes, are finished with exquisite knit binding. A true labour of love, from start to finish.
Sometimes I need to take the easier route with a design. Finding the balance between costs, time and market value can be a challenge. But as I enter my 8th year of Olann, I am feeling more courageous and learning to follow my heart. I could have done crochet edges on Cedar, I could have eliminated the belt, made it easier on myself. But I wanted to see my vision through. And in not taking the easy road, I am left with a great sense of pride and accomplishment. I hope my customers will see the value in taking the time to do it right. Because Cedar is so perfectly lovely.
Available to order in July 2024, Cedar will be offered initially in colours Snow and Truffle, with more colour options available in late Summer. There will be 2 size and 2 length options available.
