Soft Donegal Merino Wool
Soft Donegal Merino Wool
This gorgeous wool is what I have used for Inishowen Beanies and Rilla Kerchiefs. I use it on my knitting machine, but it could be used to hand knit fine gauge projects. Made in Donegal, this is the finest Merino Wool and the colours are so beautiful. I have various amounts of this merino wool available, so each cone will be listed at a different price, weight depending. Please note, the wool is sold as is on the cone.

NM 3.8/1. Single ply. The Soft Donegal range of Merino Wool is suitable for weaving and 5Gg slip stitch machine knitting and for both hand knitting and 3Gg machine knitting. Using only the best wools it meets all the requirements of modern yarn with a soft handle, yet with its large flecks and having been spun in the traditional woollen spun method it has all the ingredients of the traditional homespun Donegal. Stock supported in oil on 1 kilo cones.
We recommend a two stage washing process for garments made form our yarns. The first wash will remove the oils and the second wash creates the desired level of softness. The first wash should take place at 40c with around 15 litres of water to 1kg of dry goods. A specialist detergent should be added, up to 10% of the weight of the goods, to remove processing oils. Soak for 5 minutes and rinse with clean water. The second wash should follow, but with half the weight of the same detergent. You may add a softener if you desire. Let the goods soak for a period before draining. Spin out, or lay flat to dry.
